Evaluation for the high-value application of combustible residual materials obtained from the fine dismantling of scrap vehicles

Absrtact
The purpose of this project is mainly to fine dismantle the five higher calorific value (HCV) materials such as inner door panels, central control instrument panels, carpets + roofs, and bumpers in scrap car dismantling plants. After fine dismantling, it can serve as solid recovered fuel (SRF) and be used as energy to reduce the production of auto shredder residue (ASR) at the back-end of scrap car shredder plant. The results of this project showed that if all five finely dismantled products can be commercialized into SRF products, the overall scrap car recovery rate can be increased by approximately 5%, and the ASR production volume in the shredder can be reduced by approximately 35%. Moreover, the 13 domestic scrap car dismantling plants visited by this project are all willing to cooperate with fine dismantling. The main factor to consider is the need for additional dismantling subsidy. Furthermore, the SRF made by fine dismantling five HCV materials had been tested by this project to have high calorific value and can meet Taiwan's five SRF quality standards. In addition, this project had provided about 20 tons of SRF made from finely dismantled material to a Taiwan company for trial as supplementary fuel. During the trial period, the company's environmental monitoring results were not significantly different from daily operations. It had also been calculated that for every manufactured and applied 1kg of SRF, the overall carbon emissions can be reduced by approximately 16.9 kg-CO2-eq. Therefore, the results of this project have significant carbon reduction benefits. Ultimately, the calculated cost of this project showed that if the five HCV materials of scrap cars are carefully dismantled and made into SRF。
